Uniten RMC Visits Centre for Research & Innovation Management, UKM

Unitens Research Management Centre visited Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM)s Centre for Research and Innovation Management on 20 November 2008. The purpose of the visit is to establish a closer coorperation between both centres and to learn in greater detail about UKMs research and innovation management. During the visit, the Deputy Director (Infrastructure and Intrumentation) gave a briefing on UKMs planning and direction, research project application management, project monitoring and auditing, and promotion and commercialisation.

UNITEN participated in INNOVA 2008 Exhibitions in Brussels, Belgium from 13-15 November 2008. Dr. Bashar S. Mohamed (College of Engineering) won a Gold Medal (Special Mention) while Dr. Hanim Salleh (College of Engineering) won a silver medal for her product. Dr Bashar also won the Special Prize for Innovation from Institute of Mechanised Construction and Rock Mining Warsaw, Poland.
Dr Bashar was one of the three Malaysian entries that won the Gold Medal (Special Mention). There were 34 Malaysian entries (6 universities and MARDI) from a total of 406 entries from more than 10 international countries such as Saudi Arabia, China, Bosnia, Moldova, France, Poland, Romania, Russia, Spain, Croatia, Switzerland, Cameroon, Hungary, and Iran.
During the exhibition, Dr Hanim was interviewed by the National Newspaper in Belgium about her invention and the article was published the following day, 14 Nov 2008.

UNITEN Inventors Won 1 Gold & 1 Silver Medal at INNOVA 2008

UNITEN Inventors Won Gold Medals in International Trade Fair: Ideas-Inventions-New Products 2008 (ie NA2008)

UNITEN Inventors Won 2 Silver Medals in The British Invention Show (BIS) 2008

UNITEN participated in BIS 2008 held at Alexandra Palace, London from 15-18 October 2008. There were 131 inventions from various international institutions from Iran, Libya, Malaysia, Hong Kong and the host nation itself. Besides UNITEN, other Malaysian institutions of higher learning (IHL) that also participated this year are UiTM, UTM,UMT,UPM,UTHM,USIM and UTEM. There were 3 category of participation, i.e. leisure, consumer and industrial. UNITEN was represented by 2 lecturers from the College of Engineering (COE). They are Mr Abdul Talip Zulkarnain (Automatic Racking System for Vacuum Circuit Breaker (VCB) and Ms. Tengku Juhana Tengku Hashim (Decision Analysis Software for Maintenance of Protection Relays). They succeeded in winning silver medal for their respective invention under the industrial category.

National Academic Award 2007

UNITEN participated in an exhibition in conjunction with the National Academic Award 2007 on 25 July 2008 at Putrajaya International Covention Centre (PICC), Putrajaya.

UNITEN Invention Participation at ITEX 2008 on 9-11 May 2008 in Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, Kuala Lumpur

UNITENs innovation products succeeded in getting 5 gold medals, 6 silver medals and 5 bronze medals at the 19 INTERNATIONAL INVENTION, INNOVATION AND TECHNOLOGY EXHIBITION 08 (ITEX 2008) held from 9-11 May 2008 in Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, Kuala Lumpur.


UNITEN exhibited 16 innovation products from College of Engineering and College of Information Technology. Besides that, UNITEN researchers, namely Dr. Manjit Singh (Leader) and A.P. Dr. Ir. Ramesh Singh also won a special award - Ram Rais Award for Best Invention In Information & Communication Technology.

Congratulations to Ir Marlinda Abdul Malek on winning the third place in the Individual Category of the National Intellectual Property Award 2008. Three finalists were chosen from 75 nominations in this category from all institutions of higher learning and research institutions in Malaysia.

In general, the objective of ITEX 2008 is to display inventions and innovations produced by all public and private institutions of higher learning, research institutions, corporations and individual inventors from Malaysia and abroad. It is a platform for the researchers to form network and joint ventures in developing prototypes and eventually commercialising their inventions. From a total of more than 500 inventions exhibited, more than 400 are entries from the public and private universities in Malaysia which participated in this years exhibition.

Congratulations to the UNITEN team for their accomplishments in the recent Malaysian Technology Expo 2008 (MTE 2008) which was held at Putra World Trade Centre, Kuala Lumpur (PWTC). Our creative inventions and innovations had won one gold medal, five silver medals, and three bronze medals as well as Best Award for Bare Booth Design.
