UNITEN Participation in ICMHESR 2010

The 5th Islamic Conference of Ministers of Higher Education and Scientific Research (5th ICMHESR), jointly organised by Malaysia and Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (ISESCO), is a platform for all parties in Islamic countries to identify emerging trends and technologies that are of excellent quality that could be incorporated into their organisations requirements. The objective of the Conference is to provide an opportunity for ISESCO Member States and relevant Organisations to discuss various important issues pertaining to higher education and scientific research in the Islamic World and to evaluate and follow up on the implementation of the Strategy for the Promotion of Science, Technology and Innovation.
The Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) in cooperation with local education institutions (HEI), government bodies, selected organizations and associated parties involved with higher education exhibited their products covering over various aspects of academia, research and development, innovation, commercialization and production, among others. The conference acted as a base for MOHE to promote higher education in the country as well as to provide the opportunity to other Islamic nation to display products of high-tech in their efforts to expand internationally.

​UNITEN participated in ICMHESR 2010 exhibition by sending a team of two inventions; one from College of Engineering (COE) and College of Information Technology (COIT), respectively. Dr. Rohayu Che Omar who won the Henry Goh Award for Environmental Invention for her invention entitled Intelligent Transmission Route Finder (ITRF) in the recent International Invention, Innovation & Technology Exhibition 2010 (ITEX 2010) represents COE while Norziana Jamil from COIT displayed her invention entitled Lightweight Cryptographic Algorithm for Secure Wireless Communication. Some of the special moments taken during the ICMHESR 2010 are as shown in the Appendix.

UNITEN Participation in IGEM 2010
In the recently concluded IGEM 2010, the inaugural International GreenTech & Eco Products Exhibition & Conference Malaysia, the biodiesel project pioneered by Kumaran Palanisamy who is a Senior Lecturer with the College of Engineering, UNITEN received considerable attention from general public as well as energy industry players. Located at the TNB booth, Kumaran received audience from the Honorable His Excellency Yang DiPertuan Agong, the Honorable His Excellency Yang DiPertuan Besar Negri Sembilan, the Prime Minister Dato Najib and Kethha Minister Mr. Peter Chin Fah Kui.


IGEM2010 is aimed at promoting a prestigious venue where green product buyers and sellers meet and conduct transactions innovative eco-products, green technologies and services while increasing consumer awareness concerning global climate change and demand for green products. The United Nations, European Union, North America and countries such as Japan and Korea being the worlds largest consumers of goods and services have enacted legislations and regulations to support green purchasing and their consumption preference will severely impact on the way that goods are manufactured in Asia. Hence in staying competitive and echoing to concerns of environment conservation, manufacturers in Asia are in the race to produce low carbon green technology and eco-products as well as services including banking, construction, cleaning, printing, hotels and transportation.
Currently electricity supply is being subjected to green procurement by the Malaysian Government. The Government has taken proactive action to establish the new Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water to help spur industries and institutions to be eco-technological innovators in the field of eco-design, eco-materials, eco-products and services, as well as low carbon Green Technologies. This four-day event has been participated by more than 500 companies & organizations from around the world and visited over 120,000 visitors.

Report on UNITEN Participation in INPEX 2010

The Invention & New Product Exposition, INPEX, is America's largest invention trade show that provides a forum for inventors to exhibit their inventions and attempt to make contacts with companies interested in licensing, marketing or manufacturing new products.
Celebrating its 25th Anniversary Show at the new Monroeville Convention Centre, just minutes from downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, INPEX 2010 continues to showcase the latest inventions and innovations by higher learning and research institutions, individual inventors and corporate sectors from countries around the world. Operated by InventHelp, INPEX is a unique trade show that showcases numerous inventions, new products and innovations that are available to license, market or manufacture. "The Invention Show" brings inventors and entrepreneurs together with industry representatives in one convenient forum.
UNITEN participated in INPEX 2010 by sending Dr. Rohayu Che Omar who had earlier this year won a Gold Medal & Taiwan Invention Product Promotion Association (TIPPA) Special Award in the Malaysia Technology Exhibition 2010 (MTE 2010). At INPEX, Dr. Rohayu showcased her invention entitled Innovative Monitoring Rating System (IMRS). The judges were impressed with her work and awarded her the Special Category Award Best Innovator Cup for INPEX 2010.

UNITEN Grabs Eleven Medals at Malaysia Technology Expo 2010
Another round of applause for UNITEN when 11 out of 14 inventions presented in the recent Malaysia Technology Expo (MTE 2010) secured medals ranging from bronze to gold.

UNITEN Won 24 Medals in ITEX 2010
UNITEN participated in ITEX 2010 by sending a team of twenty five inventions; fifteen from College of Engineering (COE), six from College of Business Administration (COBA), three from College of Information Technology (COIT) and one from ITMS. UNITEN won 24 medals in total i.e. 9 Gold, 9 Silver and 6 Bronze. In addition, three of our projects won the Special Awards which was presented during the Malam Budaya Cipta ceremony in KLCC.
The winners were Dr. Rohayu Che Omar from COE who won the Henry Goh Award for Environmental Invention for her invention entitled Intelligent Transmission Route Finder (ITRF), Dr. Johnny Koh Siaw Paw from COE who won The Best Innovation Award from Taiwan Invention Product Promotion Association (TIPPA) for his invention entitled Algorithmic Precision Liquid Dosing Valve and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Manjit Singh Sidhu from COIT who won the Ram Rais AwardBest Invention in Information and Communications Technology for his invention entitled An Interactive Multimedia Chemistry Experiments Tutor.
